Interview with author of Till I Kissed You, Michelle Fernandez

MS: Michelle!  Thank you so much for joining me today.  I’m so excited to talk with you.  You have written two military romance books and are working on a book in Corrine Michael’s Salvation Society Series. Plus, you have your own reader group, Michelle’s Moonlighters, aptly named. Thank you for making time to chat with me.

MF: Absolutely Molly. Thank you for having me. I’m so happy to talk with you and share my books with your readers.

MS: You’re welcome, Let’s get started! Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

MF: Everything is an inspiration to me. Television, movies, reruns, the radio, YouTube, Netflix, Passionflix, and even driving to the grocery store. Then I have my husband, kids, friends, and people I run into (like the girl at the grocery store observing my food while she rang it up) that’ll give me an idea. I’ve eavesdropped on people’s conversations and sometimes it will trigger an idea for me. My husband, Paul, and his brother now tell me… “I’ve said it, now put that in your book!” There’s a saying that many writers live by, “Be careful what you say, you may just end up in my book!” That is so true!

MS: What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

MF: Although I look forward to a break from my J.O.B, my schedule is still the same: up at 5:30 writing, only this time, I’mI have a full-time J.O.B, so I have to work around it. I typically wake up by 5:30 am, dabble in my WIP for about a couple of hours before I take my 16-year-old son to school, then off to work (pre-COVID).  After work is done, I’ll write for a few more hours when I get home. And most of the weekend, it’s all about my writing, while squeezing in ‘me-time’ with my husband, kids, and friends. When I take time off from work, most people look forward to relaxing, sleeping in, or going on a getaway.  writing ALL DAY.

MS: Do you have a weird writing quirk you abide by, yoga pants, headphones?

MF: My Mac literally is next to my bed and when I wake up at my usual 5:30-ish, I grab it and start writing. I can’t lose the thoughts when they’re fresh in my head. And once I get going, I can’t stop. I swear my Mac is like my cell phone, it’s become a body part (SMH). I have several places I write in my house; in my bed when I wake-up, the breakfast nook, the formal dining room, my Closet/Office turned into a “Cl-office”—walk-in closet modified for an office—but my favorite place is my new “Author’s Oasis.” The AO is my balcony outside my bedroom. Paul got me a bistro set with an umbrella and arrange it so I can write under the sun facing the hills behind our house.

MS: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

MF: I love hanging out with my Paul and my squad-girlfriends, catching up over drinks and food. I love hanging out with my kids, too, but they are grown and do their own thing, but we get together for Sunday dinners and catch up with a mouthful of food. When there are no plans to hang with Paul or my squad, I deep clean my house, rearrange the pantry (I know I’m nuts), or go shopping at Hobby Lobby (it’s like a huge Pinterest store to me).

MS: So, I’ve seen pics of you and your hubby on FB (pretty cute, by the way). What does he think of your writing?

MF: Paul is my biggest fan and #1 supporter. When I first told him the idea, I wanted to write a book and I’m thinking of publishing, he told me to go for it and don’t stop. I talk about my characters so much with him and we have a running joke between us, he’ll ask, “What time is Chloe and Booker coming over for dinner?” (LOL) One time he said, “Dylan better not be coming over!” (I think it’s because I posted a male inspiration on FB of what Dylan looks like to me and he’s super-hot). He’s read book one but not book two yet… I think it’s because Dylan is in that one!

MS: Was writing always a dream of yours or was there something else you wanted to be as a child?

MF: Deep down I’ve always wanted to write and express myself on paper. I’ve been journaling since I was ten and to this day, I still have that diary my aunt gave me. But as I grew up, I wanted to act or model. When I was a little girl, I’d lock myself in my room and pose in front of a mirror with a chock-full of make-up on my face running lines from a movie. I’ve done skits/plays in school and realized I am a horrible actress… Absolutely horrible, so I dropped that dream really quick! Then I started dabbling in art and fashion designing and was accepted in FIDM in Los Angeles—I never got to attend and that’s another story to tell another day.

MS: Thank you so much, Michelle!  I appreciate you giving us the opportunity to get to know you. If some of my readers want to find you, how can they do that?

MF: Oh yes -that would be fun!  Here are my platforms and how you can find me.

Is Chloe’s mind playing tricks on her again… or has she met this man before?

They’re just friends. Dylan isn’t afraid to test boundaries, but this is one line he will not cross. That is, until Phoebe’s life is threatened. Now he’ll do anything to keep her safe, even as their connection draws them closer and their attraction becomes more difficult to deny.

Maybe just one kiss…

Can Dylan scale the walls around her heart and chase Phoebe’s demons away, including the imminent threat closing in on her?
Is Phoebe’s deeply kept secret too disturbing to ever move on from, let alone share it with Dylan?

Book review – Clandestine by Ava Harrison

This is the first book I have read by Ava Harrison.

Olivia Miller is a high fashion model recovering from addiction. She has fought her way back to be a healthy weight. Unfortunately, her clients want her super skinny with rib and hip bones protruding. The story opens with Olivia in London, recently fired from a modeling gig. She’s feeling the tremendous shame of being fat, though to most people, she is anything but that. We get to meet Olivia’s friend, Lindsey (a party girl, heiress-socialite) trying to draw Olivia her back into her world of a drugs and alcohol scene. As Lindsey bullies Olivia into going out on the town, Spencer Lancaster (heir to the Lancaster Hotel chain) enters the club where Olivia and Lindsey are partying. That is where Olivia gets her first glimpse of her hero.

When Olivia and Spenser meet, they start a consensual albeit, casual sexual relationship. Spencer is in Britain to nail down a land deal Manchester. Although the deal falls through, once he meets Olivia, he wants her by his side – if only for the two weeks he’s in Europe. As they travel together throughout Europe (France & Barcelona) they start to fall in love. Once back in the States, they decide to take their relationship to a new level and start dating openly. Olivia’s past starts to come up as the paparazzi are relentless, following Spencer and Olivia as they foster their new relationship.

Olivia’s self-doubts surface quickly as more scrutiny in focused on them in the public. She is determined to make a success of herself on her own without Spencer Lancaster. That forces her back into modeling and back into a world that she thought she had left behind with booze and cocaine just to get her to a place where she can model again.

Clandestine deals with cocaine addiction, self-esteem & body issues. It might even trigger those struggling with bulimia or anorexia.

But the story is worth it. As Olivia and Spencer fight their inner demons and struggles, Ava Harrison has written this book with hope and unconditional love.

Interview with R.B. Hillard, author of, Die for Her

I wanted you to know that R.B. Hillard just released her new book last week, called, Die for Her. I was lucky enough to sit down with her before the book’s release and ask her more about it. If you like Action/Adventure Romance with a dose of suspense, I think you will really like R.B.  Scroll down to read our conversation and then click on the cover to grab it from Amazon.  It’s free on Kindle Unlimited.  If you’re interested in reading the first in her series, Steel Raiders MC, scroll past our interview for that link.  I hope you enjoy it!

MS: Thanks for joining me RB. I’m so excited to discuss your writing and more importantly, your new book, Die for Her.

RB:  Thanks for having me, Molly.  It’s going to be fun sharing with your readers.

MS: Let’s get right to it. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

RB: Let’s see I’ve always been a voracious reader, but it wasn’t until 2012—when I was between jobs—that I decided to write my first novel. It took two, gruelingly long years, and I loved every single minute of it. That’s when I knew I’d found my calling in life.

MS: How long did it take you to write your new book, Die for Her? Is that typical?

RB: My latest novel, Die for Her, took about five months to write. Depending on the word count, it normally takes me between four to six months to complete a novel. Due to Covid-19, this book took a little longer than planned to finish.

MS: What’s is your work schedule like when you are writing?

RB:  My ideal work schedule is to write while my kids are in school. I give two days for each chapter, which means I write three to four chapters a week, if all goes well. (Note that I wrote my ideal work schedule). In truth, I end up writing some nights as well as on weekends.

MS: Do you have a weird writing quirk? You abide by, like three cups of green tea, a happy light, or maybe a soundproof room?

RB: Writing quirks: I have a few of these. First, I need complete silence to write. As you can imagine, this is difficult to accomplish with children around. Thankfully, I have a fan in my office that is loud enough to drown out most outside noises. Quirk number two: I am a planner. I have decomposition books for each of my novels. If I have an idea, I write it down. At the end of each chapter, I plan out the next one in my notebook. My last quirk: I divide my hours into 45/15 min. time frames. In other words, I write for 45 minutes and then take a 15-minute break. This helps to keep me on track.

MS: I see you like to write about Alpha men and rock stars. What is it about them that intrigues you? Confess…Did you once date Glenn Frey from the Eagles?

RB: Yes, I write about alpha men and rock stars, but I also write about the strong women who tame them. I love the taming process. I also enjoy sprinkling in a little (or a lot) of suspense into my novels. I want to keep you guessing to the very end.

MS: What is one of the most surprising things you learned about Arlan and Luciana in Die for Her?

RB: In my latest novel, Die for Her, the action predominantly centers around Luciana, however, it’s Arlan who takes the journey of self-discovery. This was unexpected, yet so exciting to write!

MS: So RB, how can people find you?
RB: Oh, yes, you can find me on any of the following platforms.

Duet Book Review – The Kingmaker and The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan

As a writer, I have read so many works of other writers. I love, Pippa Grant, Lucy Score and Katy Evans. I have learned LJ Shen is loquacious with a mean girl vibe yet layers her characters’ qualities in a way that makes them vulnerable and completely fascinating.  Vi Keeland is one of my absolute favorite authors for developing truly broken alpha heroes that you would walk through hot coals for.

But, when I picked up Kennedy Ryan’s book, The Kingmaker, I wasn’t sure I would ever be the same again.  Each writer above has a certain strength for developing compelling characters or amazing romance with a slow burn culminating in incredible love scenes or having an incredible knack for research. But Kennedy Ryan brings all that together and leaves you with your mind blown.

The fact that The Kingmaker opens with protests and police is a stark reminder of what we are experiencing in our country right now. Be forewarned. There are passages in the beginning that will trigger feelings you may be experiencing right now watching the protesting and violence happening in the United States.

I wanted to wait until Kennedy was releasing her new book, Queen Move, before I shared these reviews with you. Why? Because I had a terrible book hangover when I finished The Rebel King. I didn’t want you to have the same lot.  I wanted you to have another book to read in the same incredible world.

Queen Move, Kennedy Ryan’s newest release, picks up with a prominent character, Kimba, who has a substantial role in Kingmaker and The Rebel King.  I can’t tell you how much I have looked forward to her new release.

What strikes me about this book is the incredible amount of research that that goes into the Kingmaker. Kennedy Ryan has garnered cultural, tribal and historical references about the Apache culture that adds amazing depth to this story.

The book starts out with Lennix Moon who has just completed her sunrise ceremony at 13. As an American Indian girl becomes a woman, Kennedy reverently describes this ancient tribal ceremony that includes arduous training such as running in each of the four directions in which the girl will gather the four elements to herself.

That first chapter ends with Lennix’s mother’s death. By that time, you are hooked. The second chapter begins with Lennnix brandishing a bull horn at a protest of a pipeline being built across her tribes’ ancient burial grounds. This is where we first meet Maxime Cade, son of Warren Cade and President of the company who is building the pipeline. Father and son arrive at the pipeline site to disperse the protesters. Only when Maxime sees this young girl, Lennix, something in him clicks and he realizes he must save her as the security team is moving forward with a pack of dogs on the protesters. Maxime is captivated by Lennix’s countenance and command of the crowd, but he recognizes she’s in danger and he jumps into action. He runs to protect her. It’s gripping.

Kennedy expertly describes how the protesters are being treated and which elements are coming into play. Many of the protesters are picked up, arrested, and taken to jail. This is where Maxime and Lennix really have a chance to talk. Maxim discovers Lennix is 17 and he is 24 and just finished his undergrad degree. His plans include moving on to get his masters and PhD in Climate Science.

Kennedy is a master at being able to position an Alpha hero against a very independent and self-possessed heroine. This book was such a delight to read.

5 stars.

The Rebel King

The Rebel King picks up where, The Kingmaker, leaves off. Lennix is taken and kidnapped with her best friend Wallace on a service trip. This very scary event hooks you immediately as the kidnapper asks for a ransom and Maxime gets involved. It brings Maxime and Lennix’s father together at a time when the stakes are high. Lennix’s father is surprised Lennix and Maxime are dating. Brock Grimbsy starts to prepare a team to find Lennix and Wallace and once located, Maxime insists on coming along.

Without spoiling it, Kennedy Ryan keeps the danger high and safety a paramount concern for these two lovers. Maxime makes a huge decision that Lennix supports, but once the question of marriage comes, Lennix falters. Her strong, independent spirit conflicts with her desire to be with the man she loves.

In the end, I loved the history of the Apache people that Kennedy Ryan shares throughout the book. The animosity between Lennix and Maxime’s father, Warren Cade, is palpable. The families of Lennix and Maxime are so completely different and not accepting of the relationship between these incredibly strong individuals.

In many stories, the female character is pretty self-possessed and strong. But this has got to be the strongest female heroine I’ve ever read. Lennix Moon Hunter needed a man like Maxime Kingsman Cade who could love her in her strength and shelter her when she felt vulnerable. What’s amazing in this story is that at some point she does the same for Maxime. They are equally matched, and The Rebel King is a perfect exclamation point of a beautiful story told by a masterful storyteller.

I can’t wait to read the story of Lennix’s business partner, Kimba in Queen Move.

5 Stars

How are you holding up?

Videos from Chris Mann are only some of what is making quarantine livable.  Let me know if he brings a smile to your face too.

Also, I have discovered some more tips as we journey through this international quarantine together.  I thought these would give you a good chuckle.

Tip #4
Lay down a big bath towel on the couch or chair in front of the TV so the “man of the house” can eat his dinner while watching the latest news on COVID-19. That way if dinner happens to miss his mouth, it doesn’t make a permanent appearance on the upholstery.

Tip#5
Working from home? Spouse there with you? Be prepared to be asked daily where is the “3-in-1 oil” or “twine” or “mayonnaise” …  Just breathe.

Tip #6
When having digital Zoom meetings with co-workers, create a platform out of books for your laptop so you don’t scare your co-workers with the extra chins you have while looking down at the camera on your laptop.

Unfortunately, I came by all this knowledge the hard way.  I just don’t want it to be in vain.

Always happy to hear from you so drop me a line and let me know what creative survival tips you’ve discovered to stay sane. Take care of yourself and your family.

Interview with author, Jenna Hartley

MS: Hi Jenna! Thank you so much for sitting down with me and doing this interview for my readers.  I have read your book, Perspective so I consider myself a fan.  I loved that book for a lot of reasons (Mr. Sloan happens to be an artist) so I’m thrilled you agreed to chat with me. I have a few questions I’m going to ask to let people get to know you better.  How does that sound?

JH: That sounds great, Molly.  Thank you for having me.  I’m excited to share a little about myself with your readers.

MS: How long does it take you to write a book? *

JH: Oh boy–that depends. Unexpected came together really quickly. Preston and Alexis sort of sprang to life–Sophia too. And that book was written in record time. That said, there’s a lot more involved than just writing the book. Between beta readers and my editor, it takes at least a month after I’ve finished my draft to finalize it.

MS:  What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

JH: Generally, I wake up around 6 am and catch up on emails and social media. Then my daughter gets up around 7 am, and I make breakfast/spend time with her until about 9 am. From then until lunch, I’m writing, as well as during nap time. Though some days are spent editing, working on administrative tasks, or checking in on social media.

I find my favorite time to write (and this surprised me) is after everyone has gone to bed. I don’t consider myself a night owl, but when the house is quiet, my imagination comes to life.

MS: Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

JH: Everywhere. Unexpected is the story of a single mom and a male nanny, and it was inspired by Charlie Puth’s song, Boy. I even dedicated the book to him! Song lyrics and music inspire me, TV, people in real life. There’s inspiration everywhere you look!

MS: What does your family think of your writing?

JH: My family is super supportive of my writing, and I couldn’t do it without them! My husband has always been very supportive, and he often helps me brainstorm when I’m stuck. My parents are incredibly supportive–reading my books and watching my daughter give me time to write. My in-laws and extended family have been a great help as well. I couldn’t do it without the love and support of my family.

MS: What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your Books?

JH: That I don’t necessarily write the story in order. I figured I’d just start writing, and then write each chapter in order. But that isn’t always (or even often) the case. Sometimes scenes come to me, and I don’t know exactly where they fit yet, but they have to be written. Writing for me is like solving a puzzle. One where I don’t necessarily see all the pieces until they come together.

MS: Jenna, THank you so much for coming by and sharing about this new book and telling us a little bit about your process.  If some of mu readers are interested.  How can they get to know you?  Great!  How can people find out more about you!

JH: Thanks to Molly, for this amazing opportunity! I love getting to know my
readers! Come hang out with me in my reader group or find me at any of the places below.

Interview with author of Romantically Ever After – Emelia Blair

This week I got the chance to sit down with Emelia Blair, one of the authors of Romantically Ever After, and ask her about her new book, what inspires her, and what she’s learned from imagining the stories we love to read.

MS: Emelia, thank you so much for sitting down with me and answering a few questions for my readers. With your new anthology coming out this week, Romantically Ever After, lots of new readers will get a chance to read you for the first time. How excited are you for this book?

EB:  Thanks for having me, Molly. This has been a crazy year with my new series, Hot Resistance, and this anthology.  I could not be more excited to have my book next to S.E. Rose and Krista Sandor.  I’m thrilled to have people who’ve never read me before, get the chance through this anthology!

MS: Where do you get your inspiration or ideas for your books?

EB: My inspiration comes from different places. A scene from a movie, a conversation about two people standing in front of me in a queue, an incident from the past. Inspiration is everywhere.

MS: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

EB: This will sound cliché, but I love reading books. Also, I love baking and cooking in general. My last attempt was ice-cream.

MS: What does your family think of your writing?

EB: I’m a little shy letting my family read my writing. Hubby is not into romance genre so he didn’t read any of my books so far. He’s so supportive though!

MS: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

EB:  It’s not really a quirk but I love listening to music when I write and have something to drink.

MS: Amen! What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

EB: The most surprising thing was that I could write a book in the first place. I love creating worlds and stories and get lost in them. Writing the first book is quite challenging though.

MS: Where can people find your new book and you?

EB:  Let’s see, here are my links below. Romantically Ever After is available wide so here’s where you can find it!

Book Review – Red White and Royal Blue

Red, White and Royal Blue came up as suggestions for me over the last six months.  And every time I pushed it aside.  I didn’t think a gay romance was my cup of tea.  But I was wrong.  This book is WONDERFUL! The bottom line is this; Love is Love.  I have read many kinds of books, every time learning something new.  And I’ve read many romantic stories. But I can say that Red, White and Royal Blue made me swoon.  It was sweet, thoughtful and so completely vulnerable.

Alex Clairmont Diaz is the first son of the President of the United States, Ellen Clairmont. When Alex attends a royal wedding, attended by HRH Prince Henry of Windsor, second in line to the throne, a hysterical event brings these enemies together, falling into the wedding cake. Que the paparazzi. Flashbulbs ignite.

This is the start of a story of two young men coming of age as they navigate their sexual identities and attraction for each other in the middle of the public eye.

I SO encourage you to read Red, White and Royal Blue. It is charming, sweet and completely full of love. I hope it will make you swoon too.  I give it Five stars.

Learn From My Mistakes During Quarantine

I hope you and your family are safe.  As I have been locked down with Mr. Sloan since March 12th, I have started to figure some things out.  I thought  I would share if only to give you some comic relief.

Quarantine tip #1
Don’t forget when the garbage man comes. Otherwise, you’ll be racing out the back and burst through the side gate with your garbage can in your yoga pants, polar fleece, and no bra (boobs swinging side to side – results may vary on size of boobs)… no worries though, I made it.  It’s the little victories!

Quarantine tip #2
Do a little Yoga. Be very gentle. I did a yoga for beginners and ended up with ice pack down my pants the next day. Safety tip – Just be careful.

Quarantine tip #3
Try a new recipe. Here’s one: Easy Shepard’s Pie.  I did this recently and it was pretty delicious.

 https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/easy_shepherds_pie/

*Tip I used ground turkey, frozen mixed veggies, instant potatoes (don’t judge) and I added creamed corn between the filling and the potatoes.  It came out super! The great thing is this one is it’s an “all in one meal” (no separate starch, protein, & vegetables.) Just scoop into a bowl and go watch the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Book Review of Inappropriate by Vi Keeland

Inappropriate is a fresh kind of Rom-Com that turns serious.  Ireland St. James is a morning news anchor. A video of her gets “discovered” by her boss after a bachelorette trip in Aruba on a topless on a beach.  Her indiscretion gets her fired in a form letter from the company, signed by her boss’s boss, CEO, Grant Lexington.  Angry and disheartened, she has too much to drink and sends off a nasty letter to Mr. Lexington.

Amused by a woman with the guts or stupidity to write him, Grant Lexington is intrigued by a woman with a “set of balls.” Thus, begins the love story between, Grant Lexington and Ireland St. James.  These characters who seem completely opposite at the beginning of this story, discover an attraction for each other that is incendiary.

VI Keeland is a compelling writer. I like her and she’s reliable.  She writes a certain type of brooding hero with a past.  This is no different.  Grant is a man who is “in control”.  Cool, confident but terribly tortured.  When you read the story, you understand.  It’s not unlike “We Shouldn’t” where Vi’s hero was tortured because of a loss.  This is what helps to create the conflict and angst.

There is so much about this book that great!  The romance is a slow burn.  There is a guaranteed HEA and some delightful and funny side characters (like Pops). But if you have a difficult time reading about loss or are triggered by it (which is a very human experience and something we will all experience sooner or later) don’t read this book.  But if you love strong, sassy heroines and “hot as sin” heroes with a secret that ends up dealing with some darkness, you will LOVE this book.
I give it five STARS  ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐.  Tap HERE if you are interested in getting a copy of  “Inappropriate ” for yourself! If you’d like to see my other reviews, follow me on Goodreads or Bookbub.
