Book Review – Getting Played by Emma Chase

Getting Played is a wonderful story about Lainey Burrows, a single mom with a lifestyle blog.  She discovers a fun cover band with a beautiful drummer, Dean Walker, as she is out for drinks with her sister and sister’s boyfriend.

The two meet and get to know each other after the band’s set and what starts out as conversation becomes a night of unending HOT sex that goes on and on until they empty an entire box of condoms.  In the morning the two-part ways without exchanging numbers.  The summer goes by without either of them finding each other again.

In the fall, Laney gets an opportunity through Facebook to live in an old house a couple of towns over from her current home.  She’s tasked with redecorating it for her blog in return for free rent for a year.  Not a moment after she moves in, does she discover she’s pregnant.  The rest of the story is how she reconnects with that beautiful, cover band drummer who turns out to be “Coach” Walker the math teacher and coach for the football team of the new high school her 14-year-old son now attends.

This story is heartwarming and sweet.  I loved the relationship between Laney, and her family (who are very supportive) and the back and forth between her with Dean.  They navigate some interesting moments while preparing for the unexpected blessing (the product of their carnal impulsiveness).  I loved how this story shows that we cannot make it on our own.  Despite our desire to pioneer through the tough stuff, we need each other.  Allowing others to care and help is as much a gift to the person serving as it is to the person being served.

I recommend it – Four stars! Getting played releases on Kindle Unlimited today. Tap HERE if you are interested in getting a copy for yourself!

Book review of The Mister by E.L. James

Love can grow against all odds

What starts as a relationship between a cleaner/maid, Alessia and her employer, Maxim, is an interesting twist on the Cinderella story. I’ve secretly loved that story for years but never let myself believe it could really happen.

The Mister, from E.L. James, is rich and layered. James shares the story of two people who evolve into their entire potential of who they are meant to be.

I found it exciting as well as heartwarming.  Set in Britain, the hero is grieving over the loss of his brother (the Lord of Trevelyan)  who ran the family estate.  Upon his brother’s sudden death, it becomes Maxim’s turn (as the spare) to come into his own nobility and title, albeit, reluctantly.

During this transition, a beautiful young “cleaner” comes into his home with talents and secrets Maxim is yet to discover.  Stumbling upon some of those secrets is how the tension and chemistry develop. This Billionaire/Virgin story will charm you with a lot of “firsts” for its talented yet naïve heroine.

I loved it – Five stars.

Book Review of The Dating Proposal by Lauren Blakely

McKenna Bell is a year out of a relationship where her boyfriend of six years breaks it off with her the day before the wedding in a voicemail.  Oh, Ouch!  So, McKenna has taken a year to pull herself together after the nasty breakup by investing in herself.  She starts an influential fashion VLOG where she makes short videos discussing outfits with her growing female audience.  An unfortunate run in with her BFF’s jerk, cat sends her hard drive crashing to floor after being precariously on the table. This leads her to Chris McCormick.  Surfer by morning and tech geek by day, Chris has his own TV show for a growing audience of male geeks and tech geniuses. As the two decide to join forces to cross pollinate their fan base they spend more time together which increases their sparks.

I loved this sweet story.  Lauren Blakley did a great job weaving the relationship of these characters and the pain and heartache of being hurt and the self-doubt you have when love comes again. I recommend it! Tap HERE if you are interested in getting a copy for yourself!

Book Review – The Dirty Trilogy by Megan March.

Holly Wix is a up and coming country singer.  After winning an American Idol-like contest she is signed by a record label that has her living her dream but like a pauper. She’s hog tied to her record label and feels completely out of control of her own life.  On Christmas Eve, Holly meets Creighton Karas in a hotel bar in NYC between concert tours.

It's Hot!

The beginning starts out as straight up, hot, steamy unapologetic sex becomes a quest to find the girl after this amazing one-night stand.  I’m not giving it away but I will say this story (the trilogy) starts backwards.  Here’s what I mean. As romances go, we always expect the meet cute and then the tension builds as the characters learn more and more about each other.  Not this baby.  It starts hot and steamy right from the beginning.  This series is not for the fainthearted.

Learned A Few Things

Megan March (God bless her) taught this middle-aged gal a thing or two about how to maximize a night of passion.  Creighton and Holly’s story leads you down a path of sweet love as Karas falls for this hardworking country girl.  Each time, Holly shows her vulnerable side, Creighton is slayed and falls in love with her a little bit more.

Pulled an Audible

I listened to the whole trilogy on Audible as I traveled in the car (by myself).  You are encouraged to do the same since Ms. March uses cliffhangers for the first two books.  But only do so if you like E.L. James or Lauren Landish, etc. Ms. March is not sugarcoating it when she calls it Dirty…it is.  But, oh so worth it!

You can find Dirty Trilogy on Amazon.com – Here!

Book Review for Seducing My Best Friend from Lindsay Hart

Seducing My Best Friend
Seducing My Best Friend

Adorable.  Best friends since  kindergarten, Sydney and Jesse shared everything as they grew up together.   As young adults they made an agreement that if they were both still single at a certain time in the future, they would marry each other.

Then one fateful night Jesse and Sydney make love for the first time. Scared as to what this will mean for their relationship, Sydney goes running.

Years later, what starts out as a drunken post on social media to make good on their ‘agreement,’ becomes an opportunity for Jesse and Sydney to once again come together. Now Jesse’s a billionaire and still holds a candle for his first love.  Sydney isn’t so sure about this but agrees to give Jesse a few days to convince her.

I love Lindsey’s writing style. She always makes strong men who are not afraid to be vulnerable to the women they love. Her heroines are always independent minded and have some kind of obstacle to being completely loved by their hero as no other person can.  I thoroughly enjoyed Seducing My Best Friend, and I’m excited Lindsey Hart has another bestseller on her hands.

Book Review – Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward captivated me in the very first scene as Charlotte Darling walks through a vintage wedding dress store. There to sell her own wedding dress from a wedding that never happened, Charlotte discovers a dress on the custom or “costume” rack. It is nothing short of stunning. Upon closer inspection, a note of love is sewn into the beautiful dress. As a result, this note leads the recently jilted heroine into the world of the man who penned the note. Consequently, the book’s twists make the characters evaluate what it means to love unconditionally – for better or worse.

I, myself, am married to the love of my life. He has the same situation as the hero. At the time I met and fell in love with him, I had all the same thoughts and concerns Charlotte Darling has when she falls for Reed Eastwood. But after 20+ years, I still consider it one of the best decisions I ever made.

Hate Notes looks at the how difficult it is to open your heart again after being brutally hurt. Likewise, it touches on how moments of adversity help you realize who is in your corner. The people with you in those moments are the people you hang onto. Hate notes makes me believe love can conquer all.
